Salaam Alaykum

I am a french muslim living in Abu Dahbi (UAE). I've lived here for 6 months and have been following the market + developments that are becoming available... be very cautious about the UAE..... it's not the pot-of-gold it was 5 years ago wherevery good profits could be made. I also work in the building sector and am familiar with many issues that the public seems unaware of.

- Everyone knows about UAE now and is trying to make a quick buck. Almost 1/2 the entire construction happening in middle east is in Dubai & Abu Dhabi. This FRANTIC pace of development means that there is going to be a major oversupply of homes by 2010. I would consider the rental / investment market for Dubai as having already peaked. So unless you are going to live in the flat (and not bound by rental income), be cautious. Abu Dhabi is a better bet, as the city has a good vision to be cultural centre of middle east......also there is much less development here.
- Also Most construction projects are behind schedule (Add a year to what ever the develper is telling you). We have major concrete / glass shortages with my work projects.
- Quality is sometimes lacking in this place..... be carefull about buying off plan, as you could end up with a 6 lane freeway next to your bedroom window. Things change here overnight!!!

But that said, world economy is focusing on this region.....so you still could do well ensh'Allah

Best of luck
